Term 1
Layers of the Earth
Courtesy class have been exploring the layers of the Earth. We used the marble to represent the inner core, the yellow play dough to represent the outer core, the red play dough to represent the mantle and the blue play dough to create the Earth’s crust. We then used green play dough to represent the land!
Soil
In topic this week, we have been learning what soil is made up of. We have learned the names and compositions of different layers of soil, and have done an experiment to show how soil and water separate to form layers, with heavier particles at the bottom of the jar.
Learning Lift Off
For our learning lift off, we created models to show how fossils form. We used pasta as a model of an animal, and the play doh as the sea bed. We explored how the animal will decay, and leave in imprint of the animal.
Edible Rocks
Courtesy class looked at the 3 different types of rocks: metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous rocks. We made our own models of these rocks which were edible!
Wormeries!
In our science this term, we have been exploring the roles of worms in ensuring soil is full of nutrients. Courtesy class have made their own wormeries in class! We collected the worms from the school playground. In our English learning, we are writing instructions explaining how to make our wormeries. Come and ask us how to make these!
