Term 2
The Big Idea
As hands-on Historians we will learn all about the circumstances that led to The Gunpowder Plot, what happened when Robert Catesby, Guy Fawkes and the other plotters tried to execute their plan? - and the consequences of their actions, right through to modern day Bonfire Night celebrations. We will begin to learn about the theme of democracy and why this is important.
Music
We had great fun using the chime bells to play the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!
Children in Need
In Harmony we were an open-minded octopus as we all participated in a fun run to support children in need! The children came in to school wearing spots and non-uniform for a great cause!
History
In History we discussed the term Democracy. The children all participated in a class vote.
Curious Quests
I am so proud of our writing in Harmony. We have been aspirational ants and have produced pieces of writing all about Guy Fawkes. We have been learning to use capital letters for names and places as well as at the beginning of sentence!
Maths
In Maths we were collaborative cats and sorted 3D shapes into different groups.
“A cylinder can stack and roll”.
“I can see triangles on a pyramid."
“A sphere can roll.”
“I can see a circle on a cylinder.”
“I can see a rectangle on a cuboid.”
“A cube can stack.”
Learning Lift off
To kickstart our topic on Guy Fawkes we invited our parents in to come and gather around the fire pit with a hot chocolate. We were collaborative cats and spent the morning making a traditional guy to burn on our very own bonfire! We were being adventurous aardvarks, finding out all about Guy Fawkes and why we need to remember the 5th November. We then discussed the differences in how people such as Guy Fawkes lived compared with today.
