Term 4

Creative Curriculum

We are all different, but how different are animals? Can we identify animals and their features? What makes them unique? What features do they have in common? What do they eat and how can you classify them? How do their features help them in the climate they live in? This term we become walking-talking Animal Encyclopaedias! As super scientists we will learn lots of new scientific vocabulary! We will name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals and identify and name a variety of common animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. As hands-on historians we will study the life of Sir David Attenborough and learn all about why it is important to look after animals. Have humans always been kind to animals? How has this changed? As growing geographers we will study maps to learn about where different animals live and why they need to live in that environment. As aspirational artists we will use animal texture and pattern as inspiration to create our own prints and designs.

World Book Day

Harmony class had a fantastic time dressing up for world book day, we had some wonderful and unusual characters. We enjoyed a parade around the playground to show off our outfits and we took part in some fun activities in the afternoon.

Wingham Wildlife Park

The children had a wonderful time at Wingham Wildlife Park on Tuesday to support our creative curriculum topic this term learning about animals. We had an educational talk as soon as we arrived where the children learnt about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. They were able to handle real animal artefacts and then they did a scientific investigation exploring “animal poo” to try and determine whether the animal was a carnivore, herbivore or omnivore. The children loved learning about all the animals and of course we had time to let off steam and have a play in the amazing park!

Learning Lift Off

Year one had so much fun dressing up as animals for our learning lift off this first week back, we started the day off showing each other our outfits and telling each other facts about our animal. Then we were able to show the rest of the key stage our costumes in celebration assembly! Finally, we finished the day with fun animal related games, toys and talking about which animals live where.
