Term 3
Topic – Art
As part of our Ancient Egyptians topic, we made canopic jars by using papier-mâché and then designing the top statue out of clay. We had to think carefully about how to delicately shape and include detail on the design.
“The glue felt strange, it was weird how it stuck!”
“This is so fun!”
Number Day
Thank you so much for joining in with our Number Day for NSPCC and for dressing up as rockstars. We were so impressed by the amazing efforts by everyone. We had a great day of solving mathematical puzzles, exploring tessellations, reading maths-based books and also competing on Times Table Rockstars.
“I got 28 – that’s the best I have done!”
“Wow, why does the pattern fit?”
Music – Emotion waves
As part of our music lesson, we explored how music made us felt and created ‘emotion waves’ based on how we felt at different points in the music. This made us consider why different music was written and how we can compare different genres of music.
Writing – Creating our own stories
This week we have planned our own time slip stories based on our key text, ‘The Time Slip Scareb’. We have focused on using descriptive vocabulary and developing our sentences further. Please have a read of some of our stories. If you would like to see your child’s story, please let us know and we can photocopy it for you.
“I love writing my own story.”
“I’ve used a thesaurus to change my word.”
Yoga
This term we have been learning some different stretches within yoga and how we can safely help our partners to use the correct moves. We have been focusing on how these moves make us feel and listening carefully to the key positions.
Topic – Ancient Egyptians – Gods and Goddesses
We have started to explore our new topic – The Ancient Egyptians. We have discussed the gods and goddesses they worshipped and why they have the features that they do. We linked this to the way in which some people worship a god or more than one god or goddess today. We thought about the reasons that they would have worshipped these gods and goddesses and then created a fact file for one that we found interesting.
Topic – Ancient Egyptians – The River Nile
We have also explored the impact of the River Nile and why this river was so important to the Ancient Egyptian civilisation. We created our own information posters to display the learning that we had done. Ask your children why they were encouraged not to swim in the River Nile.
“Wow – they made paper!”
“How did they move the food around?”
Topic – Mummifying tomatoes
We learned how and why the Ancient Egyptians used mummification. We were fascinated by the processes that they used. To show this process, we mummified tomatoes! We had great fun and are looking forward to seeing how the salt preserves the tomatoes. Ask us how it is going!
“The soap is cleansing the tomato to make sure the dirt and bacteria is all gone.”
“What do the seeds in the tomato represent?”
We wrote instructions on how we mummified the tomato. Have a look at the instructions and see if you can do this at home (make sure you do it with an adult).
