Term 4

Anderson Shelter Building

As an antidote to mock SATs week, Democracy Class have been researching, designing and making Anderson shelters as part of our WWII studies. A relaxing, peaceful, historical afternoon was spent chatting and crafting. All the pupils have earned some relaxed learning after all their hard work this term.

Red Nose Day

Democracy Class have celebrated Red Nose Day with kind, donations, bad 80’s fashion and some super dancing in the school Dance-A-Thon! Classics, such as the Macarena, Cotton Eye Joe, Waka Waka and Cha Cha Slide were enthusiastically pranced, hopped, skipped, jigged, frolicked and cavorted. Britain’s Got Talent needs to witness Democracy dancing!

Dover in World War 2

Democracy Class have been exploring the impact of WW2 on our town of Dover. We interrogated some interesting maps showing where bombs and shells fell in the local area. This was of particular interest to our local Tower Hamlets area. Another source of evidence, photos of bomb damage in Dover, helped to really bring to life the terror and devastation children of our age must have felt.

Digging for Victory!

Democracy have been ‘Digging for Victory’ as the propaganda posters we investigated would put it. With the help of Forest School, we planted lettuce, mange tout, carrots, radishes and potatoes. With some love, care, sun and water, we hope to have a feast for parents at the end of term 5!!

Learning lift off

Democracy Class have enjoyed the start of our new learning topic – World War II. The air raid sirens have started. We will be making models of Anderson shelters later in the term but we couldn’t wait! On the fields of PFS we built a shelter to withstand a bombing raid (and the eventual rain) together as a team. As collaborative cats, we knew we would be successful and as the teachers dropped bombs on us (dodge balls), we huddled in the shelter safe and sound (ish).
