Term 3

What happened in 1666?

We became detectives and examined historical sources to discover what had happened. We looked at The London Gazette newspaper, extracts from Samuel Pepys’ diary and pictures to determine what happened. We discovered that in 1666 a great fire spread through London. Great detective skills were shown when we realised that the pictures of the big red bus and the helicopter over London Bridge could not be real as these things did not exist in 1666!

We have found that the fire started in a bakery in Pudding Lane, how far the fire spread and how quickly. We will look at how buildings and London have changed over time, why the fire spread and how Londoners tried to stop it!

Through this we will answer the big Idea – What impact did this event have on our lives today?

English

English has also been about the Great Fire of London. We have gathered information and written a fact file to showcase all we have learnt so far. Great fun was had when we role-played what had happened during the Great Fire, so we could imagine how the people of London felt, what they saw and the smells that would have filled the air!

Maths

In maths this term we have been learning about money. Not only have we recapped the value of coins and notes we have been comparing amounts who has more, less or the same amount? We are going to use this learning alongside previous addition and subtraction learning to find out how much change is needed when buying items from a shop!
